PURPOSE The Peter and Theresa Nwokocha Scholarship Fund was established in 2015. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to indigenes of Avutu Obowo, Nigeria enrolled for undergraduate study in colleges and universities. The Scholarship has two principal categories: a) students pursuing degrees in Medicine, Law and Engineering; and b) students pursuing degrees in all other fields. The students selected in the first category will receive N100,000 each, while the 30 students selected in the second category will receive N75,000 each. Receipt of scholarship in a given year does not guarantee a scholarship award in the following year. Each student has to apply each year and demonstrate eligibility.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD is based on academic performance, leadership potential and participation in community programs to help other students and the needy. Scholarships are awarded and/ or renewed annually provided funds are available. In addition, the scholarship may be renewed provided the award recipient meets the conditions outlined below in Scholarship Renewal.
The Peter and Theresa Nwokocha Scholarship fund awards scholarships on the basis of a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to the following: Academic Accomplishments, Community Service, References, Personal Essay and Financial Need. The Scholarship Committee issues a check to qualifying students by January 1 of the scholarship year at the Aguneke Community Hall. Scholarships awarded are based upon the availability of funds and additional qualifying criteria. Selected candidates and at least one sponsor must be present to receive the award.
Deadline for the application is September 30. Applications received after this date may not be considered.
Application must be filled out by applicant.
